Get together this Sunday!

For some this will be the last Sunday of the summer!  Hard to believe.  Will has graciously opened his place to us for lunch Sunday after church (thanks Will!)  Come Sunday and plan to go following the morning service to Will’s apartment for lunch and fellowship.  Please bring a side, drink, or chips if you can and we will have a great time of fellowship.  See Will in Sunday School for directions to his place.  Looking forward to seeing you there!

Dont forget about football this Saturday

Hey guys,

I need an idea of a count of who will be able to play flag football this Saturday against the Married couple’s class.  We need everyone to play!!  Please let me know yes or no if you can make it or not.  Details:  this Saturday at CSLA (right down East Brainerd Rd. from Concord– go under the 75 overpass)  We will meet at 4:00, play at 4:30, and eat at the church at 6:30ish provided by the Married Couple’s class.  Please let me know one way or the other!!  Tell your friends too!!  Thanks — Drew 

   

Important! Game has been rescheduled!

Hey guys!  I just needed to inform everyone that this weekend’s football game against the married class has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 5th.  The game will be at 4:30 p.m. at CSLA (which is real close to the church).  We will play a football game and will eat at the church, provided by the married couples class.  We will need everyone who can to be there!  Even if you don’t like football, come hang out with us!  Again, no game Saturday… moved to April 5th!  Let you friends know!

New Class Bookstore!

I hope you are enjoying your classes this semester. I just wanted to update everyone that I’ve transitioned the reading list over to an actual bookstore with Amazon.com. This means that you can actually read some information about the book you want and buy it right from our class web site. Please take a look at the store and, note this… if any of you buy things from Amazon.com on a regular basis, make sure that you buy your stuff through this store from now on.

If there is anything that you want that is not in the book store, you can always search for it on the same page and browse for what you want without going to Amazon.com. 1st Corinthians 11

This past week in Sunday school we had a very interesting discussion on 1st Corinthians 11:2-16.  In that day, a woman would wear a veil or “head covering” to show that she was under authority of her husband.  Apparantly, some women were rebelling against this and refused to wear any kind of covering, and this was causing disruptions in the church.  Paul writes, that by God’s design from creation, “But I want you to understand that that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.” 

Question to think about (they were brought up this week), and be ready to discuss next week when Aaron finishes this section: how does this apply to our culture?  Why are these roles so skewed in our culture?  How do we display these God given roles in the church and family life?

I would love to hear your thoughts.  You wont want to miss our discussion this upcoming week.  One more question while we are at it:  How has Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth been practical to you this year?  Someone shared a testimony this past week to me of how a situation applied directly to his life.  Would love to hear some comments….

A Procrastinator's Update

Hi everybody! I miss Concord so much! I feel so out of touch with my family there…I kind of hope you feel the same about me so I know that this update will be a welcome thing instead of a groan .  I have decided to break this down into the many areas I’ve encountered since being in CO:

Weather-  Needless to say, it snows a lot here, even more than when I lived out here before. I have become an expert at walking in heels on ice and snow on Sundays..surprisingly, those haven’t been the moments I’ve fallen. I have fallen so many times snowboarding, ice skating, walking that I don’t even feel embarrassed anymore. I even strained a groin muscle getting out of my car one day and had to treat patients while sitting on an ice pack….like I said, I’m no longer embarrassed! So, in short, it’s freezing cold.

Clinicals-  I have had such a challenging time on clinicals because I’ve had to learn almost everything as I go because it’s so specialized..school taught me very little when it comes to diagnosing and treating hand injuries. I have become a splinting machine..I’ve even made a dynamic splint with a classical guitar tuner..very cool. My patients have been a source of joy, laughter, and frustration…most I’ve liked and one…well..I just wish she would be nice to me since I’m trying to help her. The ones that make me laugh are the ones who have tried crazy, experimental treatments to feel better (ex. castor oil, massage I would call torture, pumping minerals intravenously,etc.) I really like my supervisors, they are so patient and kind to me. God has also blessed me with opportunities to speak to them about Christ, although they haven’t been long conversations. They are not saved and that burdens me…pray I would know what to say to them and that I would be a good example of Christ’s mercy in my speech and actions, not just with them, but also with my patients.

Living Situation- I am living with my best friend Jenny, her husband Branden, and their four kids (Liberty 8, Owen 4, Clint 2, Zoey 6 months). Surprisingly, we are all still getting along without thoughts of murder. I babysit a lot, make the kids breakfast, assist in potty training, break up fights, attempt to discipline, help with dishes and general cleaning…pretty much learning how to run a household. I sleep on an air mattress and I have taken over their coat closet…I try to stay out of the house when I can just so they can have family time to themselves. It’s been a pretty good situation and I am thankful for that.

Church- I drive an hour every Sunday morning to go to Mountain View Bible Church in a town called Lazear, which is really close to a little town called Hotchkiss. The drive is amazing both in the morning and at night..God’s majesty is everywhere! It’s proved an awesome time for prayer and worship too, so I don’t mind how long it takes to get there. The church reminds me so much of Concord..people that love God and His Word, people that are welcoming to newcomers like me. I’ve established close relationships already with a lot of the women there…very thankful for their counsel and concern. I stay with the youth group because my friend Jake is the youth pastor and he is such a good teacher…reminds me of Aaron in so many ways. I’m glad that I’ve been able to plug in with the youth and I hope that I can be helpful with them in my time there.

Prayer- I have some decisions to make about CO. My supervisor has asked my teacher if I could stay here for my last clinical and I know that she is going to offer me a job. Everything’s really up in the air right now because I don’t have a firm confirmation from a pediatric site here about doing my last rotation and to stay, I need that confirmed this week. I also don’t want to put stress on anyone at our church because me being gone would leave the drama teaching position open for eight more weeks and I don’t want to bail on my commitments to that, so that is a concern. Some of my prayers about money and my living situation have already been answered….I just really need prayer about making the best decision for God’s purpose and everyone who would be affected. I’m really confused about what to do and I really do miss you guys! Please remember me and pray for a clear path.

Hey guys,

We will take a collection for the Union Students during Sunday School this week.  If you want to bring money, or anything else you can think of that would be useful.  From what we understand, they have lost everything.  We will give the money to the benevolence committee to get to them and their families.  Thanks for expressing your love to them.

urgent need!

Hey guys,

As you may have heard, Union university in Jackson, TN was devastated by tornados.  Four of our own from our class, Kenzie Bolinger, Taylor Brooke Bolinger, Roger Bolick, and John Henson were affected by this storm and they lost a great deal.  From what we heard Wednesday night, they lost everything. 

I would love for us to minister to them in any way we can.  Any ideas?  Practical suggestions?  Please post and lets joyfully serve them!  Of course, please keep them in your prayers.  See you Sunday!

Fellowship lunch

Dont forget guys that our January fellowship lunch, provided by David Thompson’s Sunday school class, will be this Sunday, January 20th right after the morning service.  It will be a great time of fellowship!  Please make plans on coming!  Look forward to seeing you Sunday.
